NTHU Launches “Science Park ESG Co-Learning Workshop” in Collaboration with HSPB and Taiwan Science Park Industry Association

National Tsing Hua University (NTHU), in partnership with the Hsinchu Science Park Bureau (HSPB) and the Taiwan Science Park Industry Association, officially launched the “Science Park ESG Co-Learning Workshop” on the 11th. The program will feature six high-value sessions. The inaugural workshop was held at Meeting Room 203 of the Taiwan Science Park Industry Association, with the opening ceremony hosted by Dr. Lee Tien-Chien, Executive Deputy Director of NTHU’s Center for Sustainability and Resilience Development.

Dr. Lee noted that in recent years, NTHU has continued to work with science park companies to promote major ESG initiatives such as the Sustainability Market and the Hsinchu Literary Walk, engaging thousands of HSP engineers, primary and secondary school students, as well as NTHU faculty and students, with enthusiastic responses. The newly launched “ESG Co-Learning Workshop” aims to further create a dialogue platform for industry and academia through cross-sector collaboration and in-depth learning.

In his remarks, Wang Yung-Chuang, Secretary General of the Industry Association, said that the association has collaborated with the NTHU team for many years — from early projects on service science to later University Social Responsibility (USR) initiatives — with NTHU’s commitment to local engagement remaining consistent. He expressed strong anticipation for the outcomes of this new cooperation in supporting enterprises’ ESG advancement.

Deputy Director Yu Ching-Chiu of the HSPB highlighted that in 2021 the bureau set its 2030 action goals for sustainable development. Partnering with NTHU for the ESG Co-Learning Workshop is expected to enable more effective collaboration with businesses to enhance ESG value.

NTHU Chief Sustainability Officer Lin Fu-Jen emphasized the university’s sustainability vision, “NTHU Sustainability — 17 Actions,” encouraging the NTHU team and park enterprises to work hand-in-hand to expand ESG stakeholder networks — from within corporations to academia, and onward to local co-creation. At the conclusion of the opening ceremony, representatives from all three parties jointly embedded a wooden plaque, symbolizing industry-government-academia collaboration, into a cooperation emblem, officially marking the launch of the park’s sustainability initiative.

The first workshop featured Professor Chueh Ya-Wen, an NTHU sustainability expert, who delivered a lecture titled “TNFD Natural Capital Assessment and Corporate Sustainability.” She guided enterprises on integrating natural capital into decision-making processes and aligning with global trends. Professor Chueh stressed that in the ESG wave, companies often feel anxious chasing evolving regulations and international requirements. However, these developments follow a steady overarching direction. By understanding the underlying principles from the outset, companies can remain true to their original mission and pursue sustainability without limits.
