National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) announced today that it has established a Talent Development Fund to encourage faculty members to improve their academic performance. The fundraising goal has been successfully met, reaching NT$1.4 billion. Starting next month, faculty members will receive annual salary increases ranging from NT$200,000 to NT$500,000 based on their academic performance.

According to the university's announcement, President Kao Wei-Yuan, who took office in 2022, proposed the establishment of the NTHU Talent Development Fund. The fund is being financed through fundraising, industry-academia collaborations, and other self-raised funds, which are invested into a sustainable fund. The returns from this investment will be used for long-term rewards for faculty members with outstanding academic achievements.

NTHU also mentioned that a generous overseas alumnus, who wishes to remain anonymous, recently donated NT$200 million to the Talent Development Fund. The alumnus expressed that the donation to the alma mater was meaningful, and the university expressed its gratitude for the support.

President Kao stated that to create a high-quality academic research environment and improve teaching quality, talent is fundamental. He hopes that the rewards from the Talent Development Fund will help attract and retain top-tier talent and ensure a supportive work environment for faculty members to thrive.

NTHU’s Vice President for Research and Development, Dr. Chiu Po-Wen, added that the Talent Development Fund will be operated in a sustainable manner. Through donations, industry-academia collaborations, and investment returns, the fund can allocate NT$70 million to NT$80 million annually to attract outstanding new faculty or reward current faculty members who have demonstrated excellence in academic research.
