Abstract/Objectives
Professor Chyuan-yuan Wu (1961–2018) was a faculty member at the Institute of Sociology, National Tsing Hua University, where he served as Director and Associate Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. He co-led key projects funded by the National Science Council, including the "Science Park Core Strengthening Project" and the "AI Manufacturing Systems Research Center." With a unique background in science, engineering, and the humanities, Professor Wu used field research and oral history to reconstruct Taiwan’s technological history, promoting a deeper understanding of technological development. He was instrumental in advancing empirical social science research at National Tsing Hua University. “Wu Chyuan-Yuan Memorial Lecture” series, chaired by the Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, aims to inspire reflection and action on technology, society, humanities, and management, fostering interdisciplinary leaders with humanistic values and social responsibility.
Results/Contributions

In 2019, Mina Chiang established Humanity Research Consultancy (HRC) in the UK. Since its inception, HRC has been dedicated to addressing modern slavery, human trafficking, forced labor, and related issues. It provides research and consulting services to governments, businesses, and NGOs worldwide. HRC's clients include the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the United States Institute of Peace, and the Bali Process, a regional organization comprising 45 countries. Invitations from the UK Home Office, the US FBI, German police, among others, have sought HRC's strategic services in combating human trafficking. In 2023, HRC was one of only two non-police organizations invited by Interpol to participate in the crackdown on Southeast Asian scam syndicates. In this lecture, Mina Chiang shared her story of establishing a social enterprise abroad, turning dreams into action, and forging her own path.
