Abstract/Objectives
Located in the capital of the Galicia region in Spain, the ancient city of Santiago de Compostela is renowned as the endpoint of the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route and is one of the three major Christian pilgrimage sites. With a history spanning over 500 years, it boasts a rich cultural heritage and is home to one of Spain's oldest and most esteemed universities. The University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) offers over 60 years of experience in language education, providing a beautiful and convenient campus life. Immersing oneself in the Spanish culture through USC promises to be a profoundly enriching and memorable learning experience.
Results/Contributions

Project Details:

  1. Organization and Arrangement: The Office of Global Affairs at National Tsing Hua University initiated the Summer Overseas Language Program in Spain. The program was held from July 3rd to July 28th, 2023.
  2. Course Content: The curriculum covered fundamental aspects of the Spanish language including speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. Additionally, it incorporated themes related to Spanish culture, history, and literature.
  3. Teaching Methods: Various teaching methods were employed, including classroom instruction, group discussions, field trips, and cultural immersion activities, aimed at enhancing students' language proficiency and cross-cultural communication skills.
  4. Hands-on Opportunities: Practical opportunities were provided for students to apply their language skills in real-life situations, such as interacting with locals, visiting landmarks, and participating in community activities.


Results/Contributions:

  1. Learning Outcomes: Eleven students participated in the program and made significant progress in their Spanish language proficiency, improving their listening, speaking, reading, and writing abilities, while also deepening their understanding and appreciation of Spanish language and culture.
  2. Cross-cultural Experience: Through field trips and cultural immersion activities, students gained insights into Spanish culture, history, and customs, broadening their perspectives and enhancing their ability to engage in cross-cultural communication.
  3. International Perspective: Interaction with peers from different countries expanded students' international outlook and heightened their awareness of international cooperation and communication.
  4. Personal Growth: Beyond language skills, students developed confidence, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities during the program, laying a solid foundation for their future academic and professional endeavors.
