Abstract/Objectives

The Silent Mentor Memorial and Gratitude Ceremony is a grand event dedicated to expressing profound gratitude and remembrance for the "Silent Mentors" who have selflessly donated their bodies to science. Through this event, students from the Post-Baccalaureate Program in Medicine at National Tsing Hua University not only honor the mentors who devoted themselves to medical education but also gain a deeper understanding of the sanctity of life and the mission of medicine. The educational purpose of this ceremony is to foster students' respect and understanding of human anatomy, highlighting the crucial role of body donors in medical training. Furthermore, through reflections and stories of the mentors, students develop a sense of reverence and compassion for the medical profession, realizing their significant future responsibility toward patients. We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to the families of our Silent Mentors. Their support has made these educational contributions possible, laying a solid foundation for future healthcare professionals. The ceremony celebrates the selfless devotion and great love of these "Silent Mentors," aiming to let all participants collectively experience the profound meaning and sense of mission in medical education.

Results/Contributions (500 words)

This event aims to help students understand that Silent Mentors hold a unique and irreplaceable position in the chain of medical education; they are the guides on the path to becoming a healer. Without their selfless contribution, medical education would be like "water without a source or a tree without roots." They provide a tangible reference for human anatomy, allowing abstract medical knowledge to be translated into concrete practice.

In the journey of medical studies, the Gross Anatomy course serves as the critical bridge between "basic science" and "clinical skills," laying an essential foundation for medical education. It is because of these Silent Mentors that medical students can transcend the theoretical knowledge found in atlases and gain hands-on practical experience. The enlightenment provided by these mentors will become a steadfast pillar for students in their future medical careers.

Prior to the event, students are required to participate in the preparatory arrangements and learn about the families' reflections and the reasons behind their noble decision to donate. Upon completion of the anatomy course, students should realize that medical education is not merely the training of a single skill, but the cultivation of professionalism. The core of Gross Anatomy lies not only in technical precision but also in fostering the ability to follow standard procedures, respect the subject, and develop self-directed learning and self-discipline. This embodies the fundamental ethics of medical practice: in any technical procedure, one must remain human-centered rather than purely task-oriented. The cultivation of such professionalism begins in the anatomy lab, honing students' character and their commitment to medical ethics.
