Abstract/Objectives
Inviting Dr. Wu Jianshu, a researcher from the Institute of Modern History of the Academia Sinica, to give a special lecture on "The Cultural History of Legends: A Case Study of the Legend of the Fall of the Chongzhen Era."
Results/Contributions
This lecture takes the legends related to Emperor Chongzhen of the late Ming Dynasty as a starting point, guiding the audience to ponder why these legends arose, and revealing the complex facets of human nature in times of turmoil. Wu Renshu also outlines his current research direction, which continues the historical context of Ming and Qing cultural studies, paying special attention to the phenomenon of people fleeing during the transition period between the Ming and Qing dynasties. Additionally, he encourages the attending faculty and students to make good use of the rich new materials and databases currently available to delve deeply into research topics that remain to be explored.
