Results/Contributions

In the course, "Selection from Classics in Taiwanese Literature", reading nine classic Taiwanese writers’ selections, students centered on the history and learned about Taiwanese history, geography, and humanistic landscape based on Taiwanese literature. Students conducted field studies through visual materials and the experience of visiting the LongYingzong literary museum at Beipu. They were also required to read the selections and discuss them in class. The course was structured into multiple phases. After each phase, students were given worksheets to record their reflections on the classic selections, drawing from their life experiences. They also engaged in group discussions exploring the themes of these works in current social conditions. In the final phase, students were tasked with delivering a group presentation, focused on a literary museum. The presentation aimed to provide an introduction to the museum and analyze its unique features in comparison to other museums. The group presentations were conducted in various forms including videos, slides, papers, or processing in multiple media. Through their learning about Taiwanese history and literature over the course of the semester, students analyzed the themes of their chosen literary museums. Their observations encompassed the landscape surrounding the museums. Every group provided comprehensive recommendations based on their observations and analysis. Overall, with the arrangement of this course, students were able to integrate literature into their lives, from reading classic works to conducting field investigations. Through this process, they gained a deeper understanding of modern society and were able to reflect on its complexities.
