Sustainable Development Goals
Abstract/Objectives
This project was inspired by the student project NUSMods at the National University of Singapore, which is an organization developed and maintained by students, aiming to integrate course information and allow students to query and arrange courses. We followed the model of that project and established NTHUMods. Human-centered design has gradually become mainstream in recent years. However, within the campus of National Tsing Hua University, the user interface design of various systems is still limited by traditional product-oriented thinking, only satisfying functional needs and neglecting human-centered design. At the same time, with the advancement of time, the exponential growth of information has increased the time and difficulty required to collect information, affecting campus life. We realized that National Tsing Hua University lacked a modern and human-centered information integration platform. Therefore, we conceived the idea, established, and developed NTHUMods, which was developed voluntarily by students. We started conceiving and developing in August 2023, and officially launched the NTHUMods website in December of the same year. Adhering to the principle of "students understand student needs the best", we developed functions such as calendars, course scheduling and querying, bus timetables, campus dining status, etc. It can also synchronize course schedules and past grades from the school system for query purposes. In addition to the website, we also developed an app, which will be officially launched for download after final confirmation. Therefore, compared to NUSMods, our functions are more comprehensive. We are also actively promoting on social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Dcard, etc.) to encourage student usage. In two rounds of collecting user feedback, besides satisfaction with functionality, there is also positive feedback on interface design, garnering a lot of support from students. We adhere to an open idea, so NTHUMods is open-source, and anyone can provide their opinions or assist in development on GitHub. Due to limited team manpower and the need to continue developing new features and optimizing the user interface, we recruited digital students to voluntarily join design and development work. In addition, we joined the IDEAL project of the College of Innovation, taking certain financial support to maintain our servers. The team currently participates in the Sustainable Living Innovation Lab and collaborates with the academic team to optimize the course query interface. We currently actively participate in project plans to obtain maintenance fees for the platform and seek additional funding sources. We have accumulated over 7,000 users, and we will continue to promote and develop new features. At the same time, we continue to recruit volunteers to assist in development and maintenance. We hope the platform can continue to operate, serve students, and achieve sustainable goals.
