Abstract/Objectives
This project aims to create an incubation scheme for producing interdisciplinary scholarship and nurturing cultural talents that combine the training of sciences, technology and humanities through the possibilities of channeling the local development of science and technology in Taiwan, especially here in Hsinchu. In doing so, we hope to provide conceptual guidance and inject driving force for realization their potentials in a techno-society with humanity awareness for the next generation. The work centers in the local science and technology development in Hsinchu and expanding into entire Taiwan. This project is divided into four phases. The first three phases concentrate on different stages of research and development, review and revision, improving and creating a complete talent nurture scheme with specific goals. Meanwhile details such as training necessary teachers, developing teaching models and international exchanges are conducted during these three phases. In phase four, we will wrap up the unfinished projects and work with the Ministry of Education on promotion campaigns. This project aims to establish a sustainable interdisciplinary talent nurturing scheme based on the foundation of interdisciplinary courses provided by the Interdisciplinary Program of Humanities and Social Sciences and through the collaboration with the Center of General Courses. On such foundation, we want to develop a complete course framework that encompasses the basic and advanced, required and electric, professional and general courses. In Phase I, 1) according to the themes and the targets of the project, we will make an inventory and integrate our teaching resources and adjust the contents of existing courses; 2) in line with the four topics of the project - “ecology, environment and science,” “cognitive sciences and artificial intelligence,” “body, medication and technology,” “the civil society in the new age of sciences and technology”, courses are organized in three categories on both professional and general levels; each category is further divided into four groups. Accordingly, new courses will be developed and existing ones re-adjusted; 3) Through teaching and course workshops and interdisciplinary and cross-college sharing events, the project aims to form internal consensus and expand opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration. Therefore, we shall create an interdisciplinary teaching community and team for foresight humanities and social sciences projects; 4) We shall form connections with the industries through the matchups of industrial and academic incubation centers outside the university.
