During the two-day camp, the kids took many different courses. The two classes of "Mr. Potato Head's Memory Mill" and "Andy Grows Up" had them recall their beloved toys and childhood. Through writing and creating, we gave them a chance to re-dialogue with their toys. Many of the kids said that they hoped to see their toys again. This journey of memory made them realize that “old” doesn’t mean “bad”, and we should cherish the things we owned.
The class "Lotso’s Toy Project" started from the story of Toy Story. From the angle of disposing waste toys, we taught the kids about the environmental problems caused by discarding. Also, with introducing the case of "the Toy Library", they learned that it is possible to extend the value of objects. In this class, the kids were very willing to interact, and their after-class worksheets showed that they would be happy to donate their spare items to those who needed them.
Finally, there was the practical course, "The Irrepairable Repair Station". The teachers guided the kids to make interesting toys out of common wastes in lives, such as rubber bands, cardboard, wastepaper, etc. Seeing the kids’ smiles after completing their works, we knew that they have realized the idea of reusing and could put it into action in the future.
