Thematic Research on Historic Shipwrecks
Sustainable Development Goals
Abstract/Objectives
Results/Contributions
These listed shipwrecks possess significant value as underwater cultural heritage, whether considered from the perspective of the vessels themselves or the artifacts they contain. Although they have been published in underwater cultural heritage survey reports issued by the Bureau of Cultural Heritage and have been featured in multiple public exhibitions, to date there has been no popular science publication that introduces these shipwrecks in an accessible manner for the public. Therefore, it is necessary to publish books on these historic shipwrecks listed to promote broader public understanding.
Accordingly, this project proposes to build upon existing survey data to conduct thematic research on the listed historic shipwrecks on a year-by-year basis, and to prepare manuscripts for editing and publication.
In 2025, the writing of several monographs centered on historic shipwrecks has commenced, including a dedicated volume on the SS Bokhara. The titles of these works are Empire Routes Sunk off Penghu: The Final Voyage of the SS Bokhara and From Shipbuilding Administration to Shipwreck: The Birth, War, and Legacy of the Warship Guangbing. The former is currently still under compilation, while the latter, focusing on the Warship Guangbing, has entered the proofreading stage and is expected to be published successfully in 2026.
