Abstract/Objectives
The fundamental study of the dynamics of piecewise-linear nonlinear systems is critical to the design and analysis of a variety of engineered systems. In the proposed research, the computational analysis will be integrated with the experimental works to investigate the dynamic behavior of piecewise-linear nonlinear system applied in the following fields: (1) vibration energy harvesting design, (2) development of novel vibration suppression system, and (3) structural health monitoring.
Results/Contributions
This research project is in its early phase. A new numerical tool for analyzing the vibration of piecewise-linear nonlinear systems has been developed. Also, a nonlinear mechanical oscillator has been designed and manufactured, and will be employed for building a novel vibration energy harvesting system and for validating the structural damage identification techniques.
