Abstract/Objectives
Our school has been smoke-free since March 1st, 2023. To promote tobacco cessation, our school held the '2023 Smoke-Free New Life, GO Healthy' lecture. The lecture aimed to raise student and faculty members’ awareness on smoking issue, promote tobacco prevention, and ensure a safe environment for all faculty members and students. Also, to support students and faculty members who are willing to quit smoking, NTHU has invited smoking cessation personal trainers, dietitians, and psychologists to hold the 2023 Smoking Cessation Program. Its goal is providing assistance in the process of quitting smoking and to eliminate stereotypes related to smokers.
Results/Contributions

'2023 Smoke-Free New Life, GO Healthy' consisted of six lectures. The total number of participants was 160, including 67 students and 93 faculty members.

 

Additionally, 20 individuals attended the 2023 Smoking Cessation Program, and one of them successfully quit smoking. This person’s Carbon monoxide (CO) level was constantly lower than 5ppm throughout the program, and this person continued quit smoking even a month after completed the program.

 

A person who had been smoking for 15 years quit smoking for six months after participating in the Smoking Cessation Program and having a one-to-one consultation with the nurse. The CO level of this individuals was constantly lower than 5ppm and the individual replied no nicotine addiction on his self-evaluation. Furthermore, one of his colleagues, who have 20 years of smoking experience, was influenced by this case and expressed willingness to quit smoking. After attending the project, the individual's cigarette consumption was successfully reduced from 400 cigarettes per month to 20.
