Sustainable Development Goals
Abstract/Objectives
In the past decade, many National Tsing Hua University alumni have deeply engaged in various fields in the Hsinchu area. Currently, there are over ten local practice teams involving NTHU faculty and students, working in collaboration with local organizations to address issues in different areas, from the old town of Nanshan to the towns along the Taiwan Route 3 in Jianshi. The accumulation and connection of these teams' practical experiences have integrated into a vision of "local sustainability and harmonious urban-rural living," which is actively being promoted. This course will take the century-long transformation of Hsinchu as the backdrop, inviting students to research and analyze the possible future of the city and rural structures in Hsinchu.
Results/Contributions
The course is structured around three thematic areas of the Greater Hsinchu region: "City," "Rural," and "Urban-Rural Interface." Each theme will include field visits, guiding students to explore and understand the characteristics and development features of different areas, as well as the roles these areas play within the Greater Hsinchu region. In each thematic area, students are required to collect data based on their interests, plan project research, and engage in discussions throughout the course. Through group reports, students will deepen their understanding of the field issues and regional structure.
