Sustainable Development Goals
Abstract/Objectives
Influenced by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Taiwan's education began to attach importance to the concept of "literacy". The definition of literacy by UNESCO is: not only basic knowledge ability, but also the foundation of basic human rights and lifelong learning. Cultural literacy can be defined as: "Basic knowledge, abilities, and value judgments of culture; the ability to fluently use a culture's verbal or non-verbal communication; Experience and the ability to understand multiculturalism and reflect on cultures.” The purpose of this course is therefore to develop an understanding of the relationship of culture to oneself and others, which extends to thinking about man and self, man and other, man and nature, and man and the supernatural. In order to achieve this goal, in addition to a lot of participation and discussion, this course also arranges fieldwork to lead students into the real society and think about social sustainability issues.
Results/Contributions

In addition to lectures, students are also arranged for off-campus teaching, to visit the living site of the urban indigenous people, to learn about their conditions and experience their food culture in Taichung City. Through interviews, students learned about the life history of the indigenous people who immigrated to the city, and reflect on the indigenous welfare and cultural sustainability.
