Sustainable Development Goals
Abstract/Objectives
The awareness on food safety has been in the spotlight due to the events in the early 2010s. Regulators, consumers and actors within the industry all faces issues regarding the lack of creditable information with the production, processing, transportation and sales of food as well as the systemic failures within the market. Food safety is not limited to discussing the regulations imposed by the authorities, but can be extended further as an important factor of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals, especially regarding health & well-being, sanitation, environmental protection, economic growth and industrial innovation. Therefore, how to analyze and strengthen the food safety regulatory system with a boarder view is a crucial subject. Gaining the trust of the consumers is the foundation of a well-designed food safety regulatory system, followed by CSR, corporate governance, self-regulatory policy and business regulation management. This course is designed to emphasize the core competitive skills to face the above mentioned food safety challenges, content will be designed based on the NTHU HBA program and focused on discussing the countermeasures to food safety from a globalized, sustainable and corporate governance perspective. Using the knowledge gained from the course as a practical tool to influence the thought process of policymakers, professions and business executives.
Results/Contributions

The discourse within this course is founded on two primary themes that form the cornerstone of the narrative. Firstly, we examine the legal implications stemming from food safety issues and their intersection with sustainable development. Secondly, we explore the functions of corporate governance, risk management, and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in addressing broad societal apprehensions regarding food safety.

Participants are subdivided into groups and are directed to execute in-depth case studies on topics such as the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the international supply chain dynamics within the food industry, and the legal and policy challenges arising in the wake of significant food safety scandals. Furthermore, we delve into potential legal risks for corporate board members and executives, emerging trends in global regulatory landscapes, and legal strategies to counter financial risks. We actively promote a culture of interaction between attendees and facilitators, prompting them to continually offer feedback on their assigned case studies.
