Abstract/Objectives
1.This course aims to acquire relevant knowledge about Song Dynasty society and culture through the study of Song Dynasty historical and literary materials. 2.While understanding the theme may not necessarily cover all aspects of life such as food, clothing, housing, transportation, and entertainment, the core focus is on presenting the diversity of Song Dynasty culture. 3.By examining the current situation of Chinese culture and real-world society, this course aims to contemplate and observe the differences in contemporary societal and cultural values compared to the core issues mentioned above, thus reflecting the profound connotations of Song Dynasty society and culture. 4.Simultaneously, through exploring the aforementioned profound connotations, the course aims to guide students in reflecting on and internalizing the unique aspects of Song Dynasty society and culture. 5.This course will attempt to experience Song Dynasty culture through practical activities, observation, and appreciation.
Results/Contributions

Through the study and exploration in this course, students will gain specialized knowledge and develop a certain degree of understanding of Song Dynasty academia and culture in various topics such as "Topic One: Woodblock Printing and Book Culture in the Song Dynasty", "Topic Two: Song Dynasty Magistrate: The Record of Washing Away of Wrongs and Forensic Writing", "Topic Three: Neo-Confucianism and Academic Culture in the Song Dynasty", "Topic Four: Scholars' Notes and Anecdotes in the Song Dynasty", "Topic Five: Civil Service Examinations and Scholarly Culture in the Song Dynasty", and "Topic Six: Description and Writing of Animals, Objects, and Geography in the Song Dynasty".


Additionally, practical courses have been designed to provide hands-on experience, allowing students to understand the evolution from oracle bone script to woodblock printing in the Song Dynasty. These practical courses include activities such as "Replication of Oracle Bone Inscriptions", "Bronze Casting", "Writing and Binding Bamboo Slips", "Paper Pulp Restoration and Handmade Papermaking", "Rubbing Stone Inscriptions", "Woodblock Printing", "Lead Type Typesetting and Printing", and "Roll, Fold, Sew, and Dragon Scale Binding".


Furthermore, there are practical experiences and processes related to non-physical materials, including "Introduction to the Principles of Yi Jing Divination and Practice" and "Introduction to the Principles of Astrology and Practice".

Through these practical activities, students' motivation and understanding can be enhanced, while also fostering their ability to engage in further literary and artistic creation.
