Under the arrangement of the Huayu BEST Program, the international students had the opportunity to visit the Smangus tribe in central Taiwan, where they gained an in-depth understanding of and experience with the culture and lifestyle of Taiwan's indigenous people.
During their activities in the tribe, the students participated in a mountain hiking trip, where they ventured into the surrounding mountains and admired the ancient sacred trees, some of which are centuries old. These sacred trees are cultural symbols of the Atayal tribe, representing their wisdom in living in harmony with nature. Guided by local guide, the students learned the stories behind these ancient trees and discovered how the Atayal people have coexisted with nature for generations. This hiking experience not only brought the international students closer to nature but also allowed them to feel the deep respect and reverence that Taiwan's indigenous people have for the natural world.
This learning journey not only allowed the students to experience the unique charm of Taiwan's indigenous culture but also helped them deeply appreciate the importance of living in harmony with nature, understanding how this ancient wisdom has been preserved and passed down in modern society.
