Abstract/Objectives
This course is designed as a special topic discussion focusing on gender writing in contemporary Chinese literature and media. Various gender issues will be explored through the analysis of selected works. For example, what does "women’s writing" mean? In the context of queer writing, what are the similarities and differences between "lesbian writing" and "gay male writing"? How should "queer" discourse, beyond the binary of male and female, be observed? If gender representation is a form of "symbol," how is this symbol manifested in culture and tradition? In contemporary popular culture, how is "gender" presented, and what perspectives does it offer?
Results/Contributions
