Sustainable Development Goals
Abstract/Objectives
The course is aim to inspire students’ interests in how and why animals behave the way they do? We will cover various disciplines to understand animal behaviors, including neurobiology, genetics or evolutionary biology. We will also talk about the diversity of some specific behaviors, such as foraging, mating, aggression, in different species.
Results/Contributions

The course aims to introduce students to the diverse behaviors of animals and the mechanisms and biological significance behind them in a clear and understandable manner. It emphasizes the research directions and methods in the field of animal behavior. The study of animal behavior actually involves various biological fields (such as evolution, development, genetics, neuroscience, ecology, etc.) and even disciplines beyond biology (such as mathematics, engineering, information science, psychology, and social sciences). The goal of this course is to focus on animal behavior itself and to cover various research fields related to animal behavior as much as possible.

The content of this course is quite accessible, and even students without a solid background in biology can easily understand it. A large number of videos are provided in the course, allowing students to directly observe and understand the described behaviors, which often receive great praise from students. Therefore, in addition to students from the School of Life Sciences, many students from outside the school have chosen to take this course every year.  Under the recommendation of the College of Life Sciences, this course was also recorded as a featured online course at Tsinghua University, aiming to provide the course content for high school students for self-learning purposes.
