Abstract/Objectives
In response to the rapid development of globalization in the 1980s, interdisci-plinary research based on Global Political Economy has become a focus for exploring new global political and economic order and global issues, such as the disparity between the rich and the poor, food and water shortages, climate change, the spread of infectious diseases, global governance and sustainable development and so on.
This course is conducted in an interdisciplinary and issue-oriented style.Through the instructor’s lectures and students' group discussion and sharing of topics, it is expected to achieve the following objectives: (1) to help students have a basic knowledge and under-standing of the global political and economic system, and to examine issues of global concern; (2) through the acquired knowledge, and then to cultivate students' ability to interpret, analyze and criticize global issues from a global perspective.
Results/Contributions
This course is one of the core courses of Dimension IV─Citizens, Society and the World.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will not only be able to understand the fundamentals of how political and economic forces interact in the global system, but will also be able to further use theory to explain, analyze and criticize the impact of global issues on worldwide and domestic politics, economy, environment and so on.
In order to reach these objectives, students are required to participate in activities including lectures, class discussion, group oral presentations by topic, and final papers.
