Sustainable Development Goals
Abstract/Objectives
The course is designed to introduce sustainable development, ESG investments, corporate sustainability reporting, and related topics. It combines theory and practice to deepen students' understanding of the development and application of ESG. The content covers trends in ESG and sustainable development, relevant domestic and international standards and initiatives, and the importance of ESG in corporate management. Students will work in groups to analyze the corporate sustainability or social responsibility reports of designated companies and discuss their performance in environmental, social, and governance aspects. The course delves into environmental responsibilities, including the impacts of climate change, climate risk management and financial disclosure in capital markets, and the management and opportunities of greenhouse gases. Additionally, the course focuses on theories and norms of corporate governance, including the operation and performance evaluation of boards of directors. In sustainable finance, the course introduces green finance action plans, green financial products, ESG investments, ESG evaluation, and impact investing, helping students understand how to use financial tools to promote corporate sustainability. Through this course, students not only acquire theoretical knowledge related to ESG but also learn how to apply this knowledge to assess and improve corporate sustainability strategies. The course provides practical guidance and analytical skills for students aspiring to work in corporate sustainability development.
Results/Contributions

The outcomes and contributions of this course primarily focus on enhancing students' comprehensive understanding and practical application abilities regarding corporate sustainability development and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG). Through in-depth exploration of sustainability trends and classic case studies, students learn how to apply ESG principles to evaluate and improve corporate operations and strategies. Collaborating in small groups to analyze specific companies' sustainability or social responsibility reports not only enhances their teamwork skills but also develops their critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

Moreover, the course covers a wide range of topics including ESG investment, sustainable financial products, and impact investing, providing students with a broader understanding of sustainable development opportunities in financial markets. By studying both domestic and international ESG standards and initiatives, students can grasp the latest developments and regulations in global sustainability, laying a solid foundation for future application of ESG principles in the corporate or financial sector.

The analysis reports prepared by the students demonstrate their ability to assess ESG performance and reflect a deep understanding of corporate governance, social responsibility, and environmental management. Through this course, students are able to independently identify and evaluate corporate performance in addressing climate change impacts, greenhouse gas management, and science-based carbon targets, and subsequently propose specific improvement measures. These enhanced skills provide students with valuable resources and experiences for promoting sustainable development and responsible investment in their future careers.
