In 2021, the Department of Chinese Literature and the Center for Literary Theory at our university formed an interdisciplinary research team made up of five scholars: Professor Chen Guoqiu, a Yushan Scholar, Professor Cai Yingjun, a chair professor from TSMC, Professor Li Zhenghui, Associate Professor Xu Mingquan, and Associate Professor Jian Liangru. They are executing a three-year integrated project funded by the National Science Council entitled "Research on the 'Poeticality' of Chinese Literature," which addresses five subtopics to explore the essential meaning of 'literature' in China, specifically the term "poeticality" mentioned in the project title. The research team argues that "poeticality" does not refer solely to a literary style; its core consciousness is rooted in the contemporary, representing a continuous reflection on existential conditions and the nature of literature itself. This seminar is held as a preliminary presentation of the research results by the five scholars, using this opportunity to highlight the positive significance of "poeticality" as a research method. It is also hoped that by drawing on external experiences, we can address and think critically about the current situation of "literature" in today's society.

A total of 17 scholars participated in this conference, each reflecting on their areas of expertise in relation to the theme "Poeticality and Literary Change: The Contemporary Nature of Traditional Literature," and producing academic papers in response. In summary, the key to establishing "contemporaneity" lies in the question of how to open up "new" from the "old."

This conference not only responds to the contemporary significance of "poetry" or "literature" as it stands in the moment but also aids in cross-generational reflection, outlining its longitudinal trends over time, thus providing solid ideas and methods for the contemporaneity of Chinese literature. It also contributes significantly to the enrichment of Taiwan's cultural foundation.
