Professor CHAN, Kwok Kou Leonard has been awarded the Tsinghua Honorary Chair for the 114th academic year. The Department of Chinese Literature held a ceremony to present the award and delivered a speech entitled "Discourse on Lyrical Tradition in China, the World, and Taiwan."


Professor CHANis an internationally renowned scholar and currently serves as the Tsinghua Honorary Chair Professor in the Department of Chinese Literature at our university, as well as a fellow of the Hong Kong Academy for the Humanities. His research began in the field of Chinese classical literary criticism and subsequently expanded to Hong Kong literature, literary history, and the Chinese lyrical tradition. He has an extensive publication record and serves as the chief editor of the "香港文學大系," greatly influencing the academic community. In 2018, he was selected as the first Yushan Scholar in the category of Humanities and Arts, as approved by the Ministry of Education, and he assumed his position in 2019 at Tsinghua University as the head of the "Center for Literary Theory and Research," actively integrating international research resources and enhancing Tsinghua's visibility in the field of humanities scholarship.


Professor CHAN's research situates the Chinese lyrical tradition within a broad international and contemporary context, showcasing the depth and innovation of academic thinking. The ceremony and speech concluded successfully in a warm yet professional atmosphere, bringing together Tsinghua faculty, students, and academic scholars, fully demonstrating the depth and vitality of humanities scholarship.
