Abstract/Objectives
The World Health Organization (WHO) designates December 1st of each year as World AIDS Day, calling for global attention to the issue of AIDS. It underscores the importance of acknowledging and supporting those living with HIV/AIDS, fostering collaborative endeavors to advance public health policies for AIDS prevention and treatment, and safeguarding the human rights of those affected by AIDS. It is hoped that people worldwide can contribute their efforts to support those living with HIV/AIDS. In recent years, the predominant demographic of HIV infections in the country has been young adults aged 15-34, accounting for seventy percent of the total infections. It is crucial for everyone to understand this disease. According to data from the Taiwan Centers for Disease Control, Ministry of Health and Welfare, there were 1,075 reported cases of HIV infection nationwide in 2022, with 212 cases (19.72%) occurring among individuals aged 15-24. In recent years, cases of other sexually transmitted diseases such as gonorrhea and syphilis have also remained high, with sexual activity being the predominant risk factor (accounting for 86.89%), indicating that unsafe sexual behavior is a major contributing factor to the increase in infection rates. To address this, the Division of Health Services from National Tsing Hua University held the 2023 NTHU World AIDS Day Event Series, "Let's Explore the 'I' (love/AIDS)," from November 21 to December 7, 2023, at the MXIC Building Hall. The objective was to prevent physical and mental harm stemming from the disease, while fostering understanding of sexuality, promoting healthy attitudes towards it, and encouraging safe sexual practices.
