Sustainable Development Goals
Abstract/Objectives
NTHU Interdisciplinary Science Education Center has hosted thousands of events in recent years with tens of thousands of attendees every year. However, for the public and especially millions of K12 teachers and students, the promotion of science education is still not enough. For teachers and students in remote areas, the science education promotion services that can be provided are quite limited due to various factors and difficulties such as time, distance, etc. Therefore, we have been actively cooperating with teams inside and outside the school faculty. As for the teams outside the school, we have been working with the TSMC volunteer team, Compulsory Education Advisory Group in various cities, Taoyuan Education Bureau, Tainan Education Bureau, Taipei City Education Bureau, etc. We have all worked together on science experiments, special lectures, academic science popularization film recording, etc., to expand the scope of popular science education, improve the efficiency of science popularization, and benefit more people. When it comes to science education, hands-on experiments are indispensable, especially personal experience of marvelous experimental phenomena. There are many different education methods, such as substantive dialogues, which cannot be completely replaced by YouTube videos, MOOCS, E-learning, or AR/VR display technologies that are currently actively developed worldwide. Therefore, our team has been working with Jinshihao Industrial Company. After exchanging and discussing, under the same goal and philosophy of both parties, we decided to develop STEAM scientific teaching aids and hundreds of teaching plans that might be suitable for the teaching system. This method will greatly reduce the cost of teaching aids and be more in line with the education system's teaching policy. Through diverse activities, teaching aids, and teaching plans specially designed for the public, it is hoped that a large-scale popularization of science can be achieved nationwide regardless of region and time.
Results/Contributions

With interest in science popularization, this project will execute the following items:

1.         Participating in the first Taiwan Science Festival 2020: In addition to the top five national science museums which overall arrange the festival, we will hold a science fair at Big City, the largest shopping mall in Hsinchu City, and Zhunan railway station.

2.         Establishing a cross-local popular science resource sharing platform: We have promoted popular science for years and accumulate accomplishments such as teaching aids, teaching materials, DIY courses, and videos. The resources could be shared with the public and organizations over the country.

3.         In collaboration with a well-known domestic company in research and develop electronic teaching aids: Based on the countrywide promoting experience, we design STEAM teaching aids typically involving Chinese. The K-12 teachers could develop the lecture base on the new curriculum at their option.

4.         Providing resources to schools in remote areas: We put great emphasis on science popularization. Holding the spirit of devotion, we offer educational training and give instruction, especially in the areas that lack teachers and funds.
