This project successfully promoted intergenerational exchange in the Greater Hsinchu area and achieved the practical goals of youth talent cultivation and senior care through two core activities: the "Corner Library: Borrow a Forgotten-Age Friend" and the "Senior Sports Event Planning Workshop." The Corner Library held 15 sessions, serving 18 students from various liberal arts and science departments, and included international students for the first time. Through dialogue, students learned about the life stories of senior chat companions and the local history of Hsinchu, deepening their understanding and respect for the senior population. Student docents received systematic training, including aging simulation, intergenerational communication, companionship skills, and senior issue guidance, enhancing their empathy, service awareness, and practical skills. The senior chat companion refresher course strengthened narrative skills, youth communication methods, and emotional support abilities, improving the stability and depth of intergenerational interaction.
The Senior Sports Event Planning Workshop focused on design thinking, event planning, marketing, and senior sports needs analysis, guiding students to complete marathon proposals in groups, including route design, supply and medical arrangements, volunteer division of labor, brand strategy, and community management. Industry and academic experts were invited to share case studies, cultivating students' cross-disciplinary integration and practical planning skills. Following the workshop, a preliminary team of interested faculty and students was successfully formed, planning to jointly execute a senior-friendly marathon in 2026.
Overall, this project established an institutionalized and replicable intergenerational exchange platform, enhanced the physical and mental health and social participation of the senior population, cultivated youth cross-disciplinary abilities, and promoted local cultural inheritance and social inclusion, responding to relevant UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and demonstrating clear social impact and sustainability.
