Results/Contributions

This research was conducted by Dr. Fabio Yuchung and students Lin Zi'en, Lin Yejun, and Yang Xunzhang. The research team attempted to use artificial intelligence tools such as ChatGPT to assist in interpreting and translating this original manuscript in Spanish, further exploring the features and historical linguistic value of the document. This manuscript not only preserves the recording methods of 18th-century Western missionaries for the pronunciation of Minnan (Hokkien) but also reflects the evolutionary trajectory of early Minnan pronunciation values. Additionally, it contains relevant content about daily life and measurement standards in the Minnan region at the time. This research can be seen as an important exploration of the cross-disciplinary integration of artificial intelligence technology and historical research.
