Abstract/Objectives
There is an exception to this course that is to train students to accept the new workplace of the ability to be transdisciplinary. Regardless of department and grade, you only need to have some images of adaptive reuse. The course is going to do some case study and conquer the contemporary issues of historical heritages. For example, transformation of traditional industries, reuse of idle space, value judgment, continuation, presentation or interpretation of cultural assets, etc. The concept of adaptive reuse came from a lecture of a famous architect Lawrence Halprin. At that time, Ms. 馬以工 also publish an essay 〈古屋的再循環使用〉to respond the trend. By 戴育澤 and several people continuously have finished the dissertation about adaptive reuse since 1986 and there was a policy from council for cultural affairs is to reuse of idle space, the issue about adaptive reuse and management of historical heritages become a distinguished school. In order to make students understand the issues about adaptive reuse in Taiwan, there are some case studies and discussion of management level.
Results/Contributions

The plan is divided into four parts which is going to be implemented by learning the knowledge of general architecture, having a system lecture of experience sharing, visiting historical heritages and holding design camp.

First,  the course is trying to construct the basic knowledge of how to read the vocabularies of space and adaptive reuse heritages.  Case study is a shortcut to the students whose background is not about architecture , in addition, there is a practice to sketch the classroom and their own room of the house in order to have some skills for the final project.

Second, the lectures that we invite some managers and  professors to share some experience are focused on adaptive reuse, also about constructing the philosophy of heritage reuse,  writing operational plans and case sharing.

Third, there is a visit to Daxi in order to understand some cases of adaptive reuse in Taiwan. There are some  historical heritages we visited which are Daxi Old Street, Daxi Wood Art Ecomuseum, Daxi Orchid Room. By visiting, we can know more about the history of Daxi and some strategies to  write operational plans.

At the end, in order to have conservation of each other there is a design camp held. Every team needs to  write an operational plan with not only the information gathered by searching and visiting Daxi but also the records of an interview with the owner of the historical heritage. By five times discussing, students finally figure out a plan and present a speech at the last class.

In conclusion, in order to have a chance to practically do a project of adaptive reuse, there is a system of course to figure out how to propose a plan to operate a historical heritage. Case study is to acquire the knowledge of architecture and the experience sharing is an opportunity to enter the door of adaptive reuse. Inspecting the historical heritages is the most direct way to find out the local history of Daxi. Design camp held is to create an atmosphere to discuss how to solve the problem. We can see there are some good ideas which can really demonstrate the value of historical heritages.
