Since its establishment in 1988, the Yuehan Literature Award at National Tsing Hua University has not only served to commemorate the literary passion of the university’s founding president, Mei Yiqi, but also carries the mission of deepening the cultural ecosystem on campus and promoting a cultural renaissance. Named after President Mei’s calligraphy "Yuehan," this award has become an important bridge connecting the past with the present, transcending cultural boundaries, and symbolizing the Tsing Hua community’s relentless pursuit of cultural roots and memories.
This year, four new categories have been introduced, including stage plays, classical poetry, classical lyrics, and a special award for literature from diverse ethnic groups. These additions aim to breathe new life into traditional literature at Tsing Hua, practice the concept of sustainable cultural development, and enhance understanding and recognition of the experiences and backgrounds of new residents. This not only enriches the university’s cultural heritage but also fosters a more open and diverse social environment, demonstrating Tsing Hua's deep commitment to cultural diversity and integration.
As time progresses, the Yuehan Literature Award has also become an important window for observing and participating in cultural changes. In this era of transformation, the award serves as a cultural lighthouse, illuminating the path for cross-cultural exchanges, recording and passing down Tsing Hua University’s rich and diverse cultural memories, and continuously promoting the construction of a more open, inclusive, and diverse cultural society.
