Abstract/Objectives
The main content of this course will be focused on the stylistic appreciation of both Hollywood and Taiwanese film scoring industry. The discussions will not only include the historical background of each period but also illustrate the composing styles toward various composers. Moreover, during the lectures, the musical analysis and composing theories for each film will be mentioned as well. Therefore, through the diversified topics, students’ musical appreciation will be built up to a higher level.
Results/Contributions
The purpose of this course will be illustrating the basis idea of film scoring industry as well as its composing styles and historical development. Through the various examples from both Hollywood and Taiwan, student can not only realize the importance of each soundtrack but also their functions. Moreover, the class discussions will enhance the ability of musical analysis from different film scoring repertoire, which will give them great opportunity of learning film scoring industry in depth.
