Abstract/Objectives
Taiwan has become synonymous with advanced technology and semiconductor manufacturing capacity. With a complete semiconductor ecosystem, Taiwan is home to the world’s largest foundry and packaging and testing sectors, and second largest IC design sector. When it comes to making the most advanced chips, Taiwan leads the way. Taiwan manufactures approximately 70% of chips under seven nanometers and is at the cutting edge of two nanometer process R&D. Therefore, entering the semiconductor industry has also become one of the ideal career options for many young students. However, the majority of individuals and students are familiar with Taiwan's semiconductor industry mainly in terms of technical knowledge and financial investment. Most people are unaware of the development process of Taiwan's semiconductor industry, and related courses are also severely lacking. Through the introduction provided in this course, students will gain a deeper understanding and emotional connection to semiconductor industry in Taiwan.
Results/Contributions

Through the teaching of three instructors, students learn a comprehensive introduction to the development of Taiwan's semiconductor industry. This course specially invites external speakers to share popular science lectures on semiconductors, and arranges two field trips to visit key landmarks of Taiwan's semiconductor origins—the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC).

Students integrate their learning from the course by interviewing semiconductor industry professionals, submitting course reflections, and presenting group oral reports at the end of term to demonstrate their understanding and insights into the semiconductor development process.
