Abstract/Objectives
Previous research has examined the application and incorporation of reflexivity in a number of different fields. Reflexivity in films is known as "reflexive film", which provides a different viewing perspective and function from typical films. The researcher wanted to quantify the portrayal of gender in reflexive films and how it differs from typical films using two hypotheses to meet these objectives and to point out the relationship between the research design and the hypotheses. Hypothesis 1: reflexive films can be identified and systematized; Hypothesis 2: gender is portrayed differently in reflexive films than in typical films. In summary, the researcher designed an operationalized and reproducible coding system to identify reflexive films, examine the degree of reflexivity in films, and examine the gender portrayal in films by content analysis.
Results/Contributions

The results of both Study 1 and Study 2 met expectations, with Study 1 showing that the coding system was effective in detecting the degree of reflexivity in films, the results of Study 2 indicate that there is a difference in the gender portrayal of reflexive films and typical films, especially in the sexualization of female appearance and gender stereotypes.

This may reveal the characteristics of films with reflexivity - a break from the audience's habits. The director may intend to give a sexualized appearance, but set up the characters to present a non-traditional appearance to lead the audience to self-reflection through the difference; or the sexualized appearance may be an intentional display in some films.
