Abstract/Objectives
"Materials, Technology, and the History of Medicine: Sources, Approaches, and Research Methods" was a workshop jointly organized by the Committee for the History of Science of the Republic of China (under the International Union of History and Philosophy of Science and Technology, Division of History of Science and Technology), the Institute of History at National Tsing Hua University, and the interdisciplinary research project "Material Circulation and Knowledge Transmission: A Dialogue between the Humanities and Sciences" at National Tsing Hua University.
The workshop was held on April 20, 2024, in Room C310 of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at National Tsing Hua University. It explored the intricate relationship between tangible materials and the production of abstract knowledge, with particular attention to how knowledge and technology are disseminated through the circulation of material objects.
Results/Contributions (500 words)
This seminar invited numerous professors to share their research and serve as discussants. Centered around the theme of "Material and Technology, Medical History—Historical Materials, Approaches, and Research Methods," the topics discussed during the event included various aspects such as calendars, astronomy (constellations), mathematical squares, illustrations of scientific instruments, and sericulture techniques, reflecting the diverse possibilities within this field.
During the discussions, scholars brought up additional extended topics and possibilities for deepening research, providing opportunities for knowledge exchange; this also offered important academic nourishment for the attending students.
