Environmental Science and Engineering
Environmental Science and Engineering
Sustainable Development Goals
Abstract/Objectives
The objectives of this course are to introduce the application of certain necessary principles of engineering and science that are required for any quantitative treatment of environmental problems. The basic, traditional materials on water supply, wastewater treatment, air pollution control, and solid and hazardous waste management will be covered. Some of the major environmental problems of the day will be presented as well.
Results/Contributions
Students who enroll in this 3-credit elective course will learn the fundamental concepts and knowledge of environmental science and engineering. The course introduces the principles of water quality management and the operation of water treatment plants, wastewater treatment plant operations, air pollution and its control, as well as the treatment and utilization of solid waste.
If the class size exceeds 20 students, a field visit will be arranged. Previous visits have included the Hsinchu Water Treatment Plant, the Hsinchu Science Park Wastewater Treatment Plant, and the Hsinchu Municipal Incineration Plant.
