The foreign students in the Huayu BEST Program visited Yunlin, an agricultural hub in Taiwan. In addition to experiencing the agricultural spirit and sunshine of southern Taiwan, they also toured a soy sauce brewing factory to gain an in-depth understanding of the unique flavors of Taiwanese soy sauce. Inside the factory, the students witnessed the process from soybean to finished product and learned about the traditional craftsmanship and cultural significance behind every drop of soy sauce.
Moreover, they visited the historic Yunlin Sugar Factory, where they explored the development of Taiwan’s sugar industry from the Japanese colonial era and its vital role in the local economy. During a guided tour, the students learned about the sugar production process starting from sugarcane, tasted various Taiwanese sugar products, and heard about the factory’s efforts in sustainable development. These visits allowed the students to gain a deeper appreciation for Taiwan’s unique charm in agriculture, craftsmanship, and cultural preservation.
