Abstract/Objectives
The 2020 COVID-19 pandemic has brought tremendous impact not only on our medical care and public health systems, but also the politics, economy, transportation, communication, psychology and society, and may change the life style of human being forever. To have comprehensive observation, research and analysis over the pandemic influences from the perspectives of humanities and social sciences will be helpful for better management of the current challenges, reduce financial cost, and prevent possible harm to public trust. This research program aims to provide multiple-disciplinary approaches including: Sociology, Law, Economics, Psychology, Public Health, Risk Communication, Medical Ethics, Participatory Governance, and Social Work, and will research on the following topics: (1) creating a humanities and social sciences information platform to compile all research material from individual subprojects; (2) generating substantial strategies and recommendations for governance and regulation from different disciplines; (3) promoting the risk communication between the scientists, government, and the public towards issues relevant to COVID-19 pandemic disease; (4) sharing the Taiwan experience domestically and internationally; (5) providing to the government or medical institute as guidance for infection control policies.
Results/Contributions

Subproject 1: The "COVID-19 Memory" website (https://covid19.nctu.edu.tw/) and Facebook fan page were established to collect commentaries, discussions, textual, audio, and visual works, micro-courses, experience sharing from 56 countries, forums with experts, and reflections of forums and book exhibitions. The Facebook platform has over 1,625 followers. Additionally, three "COVID-19 Memory Empowerment Workshops" with nine micro-courses were organized, and nearly 50 national synchronous book exhibitions on "Post-Pandemic Prospects" were held.

 

Subproject 2: Seven workshops and seminars were hosted, and 16 international, regional, and national personal data protection laws or guidelines were translated to form a thematic platform (https://ai.iias.sinica.edu.tw/category/covid-19-data-protection/). The results were presented through broadcasts, interviews, or short films, totaling six segments.

 

Subproject 3: Three online surveys and analyses were completed (n=1200, 1003, 1200), and the impact of COVID-19 on Taiwan's industry GDP and labor force was estimated. Three surveys and experiments targeting Taiwanese and international citizens were also completed. International collaboration was established by joining the International Collaboration on Social & Moral Psychology of COVID-19 (ICSMP COVID-19) and participating in the Pandemic Backsliding project to construct a transnational database.

 

Subproject 4: One cross-national qualitative interview (4 countries, n=47) was completed, and the effectiveness evaluation of nine non-pharmaceutical interventions policies in 13 countries was also completed.

 

Subproject 5: Cooperation negotiations with seven media outlets and eight programs were completed. Thirty programs were recorded, and five e-newsletter articles were published.

 

Subproject 6: The project was invited to speak at seven events related to the project's theme, completed interviews with three key figures in the mask policy, and completed three series of short films on the physical and mental health of medical personnel, which were published on the COVID-19 Memory website. Two focus group discussions and in-depth interviews with six frontline workers were completed, and the project was invited to a Needs RADIO interview and to speak at two domestic and international seminars.
