Abstract/Objectives

Liam Kua, one of the leisure activities for Taiwanese in earlier times, has become a unique form of performance art in Taiwan. Taiwanese ballads (Koa-á books) are the lyrics books for Liam Kua. Kept inside these books are records of the rich and versatile culture of Liam Kua, which makes them particularly valuable for studies on the social history of Taiwan.

Results/Contributions

The NTHU Library holds a complete and representative archive collection of 133 Taiwanese ballads (Koa-á books), published by Zhu Lin Bookstore.

Through exhibitions and performances, the Library aims to introduce Liam Kua to the general public, as well as inspire more to learn and participate in this intangible cultural heritage.
