Sustainable Development Goals
Abstract/Objectives
There are factors in life that construct the appearance of society and influence our actions, both tangibly and invisibly. Among them, "gender" plays an extremely important role and is more present than we can imagine. In this course, we will use the perspective of gender to interpret the usual things differently. Students will be encouraged to develop their own ideas for practice/service and to write up their results with gender observations, and to learn how to solve problems and issues from the multiple perspectives of gender.

Course Objectives:

To promote students' social and civic responsibility through service learning, to bring practical help and problem solving to the community through direct service, to bring new thinking to the community (organizations), and to continue to engage in community service and then to participate actively in social issues because of the positive growth experience that participation brings to students.

Practicum and Service:

This semester's service-learning project was focused on the HIV screening component. In May of this year, Shuyuan Gender Service organized an HIV screening event on the campus of National Tsing Hua University, with locations not only on the second floor of Mizuki, but also at the Golden University store in front of the campus. Each of these locations is well protected in terms of privacy, including the installation of curtains, so that the public and students can have a safe and secure environment to be screened. During the busy midterm period, we arranged a visit to the Windy City Ministry House near Bamboo Fire to learn more about gay culture. The first impression of the house was that it was a gender-friendly space with a relaxed environment and friendly staff, where people could come and have tea and chat. Having a place where people can seek help when they are vulnerable and a place to meet when they are happy is an important space in a society that increasingly values gender diversity.
