After the pandemic, Land Bank's Badminton Summer Camp has returned to the Taipei area for the first time, attracting the enthusiastic participation of 200 elementary school students. Some of the slots were donated to children from the New Taipei City Family Assistance Center. During the opening ceremony, Director Lin Meng-Ping expressed her sincere gratitude to Land Bank for its commitment to giving back to society. She stated, 'We are sincerely grateful to Land Bank for sharing this opportunity with the children from the Family Assistance Center. Sports not only promote physical health but also nurture strong spirits. Badminton, in particular, hones focus and patience, which is immensely helpful. I believe the participating children cherish this opportunity and will enjoy the camp.'
The summer camp, which began today, will run for five days. It is led by Land Bank's national-level coach team, who will instruct the students in the fundamentals of badminton, including basic knowledge, movements, and physical fitness. The camp follows a model of interactive education and fun through national players' demonstrations, allowing students to get acquainted with the sport.
'At this age, the fundamentals of sports are crucial. Therefore, we teach them step by step, from gripping the racket to serving and hitting the shuttlecock, in an effort to make them fall in love with badminton,' said Lee Sung-Yuan, the head coach of Land Bank's badminton team, who gave the first lecture on basic rules. He vividly and practically explained to the students various aspects of badminton, from equipment to how badminton matches are conducted, emphasizing Land Bank's commitment to taking from society and giving back to society by promoting badminton with dedication.
The coaching team includes several national players, the most well-known of whom are Ren-Hao Hsu, who competed in the men's singles at the London Olympics, and Lin Yu-Hsien, a three-time national badminton singles champion, who personally taught at the event.
'It's always a pleasure to have the opportunity to teach children every year and introduce them to the world of badminton. Nowadays, children are exposed to electronic devices at an early age, so we try to engage them in sports and lead them to experience the joy of badminton,' said Ren-Hao Hsu. Lin Yu-Hsien also believes that children at this stage, through each learning and practice session, can deepen their love for badminton and, in the process, continuously strive for improvement. This mentality is not limited to the badminton court but can be applied in their daily lives as well.
Land Bank's badminton team has been active for almost half a century, and the summer camp has been held for many years. According to Lee Sung-Yuan, with the increasing popularity of badminton in Taiwan over the years, more and more people have become involved. Some of the team's current young players were once students at the summer camp. The team aspires to continue its mission, embody the spirit of sustainable operation of its parent company, and foster new talents for Taiwanese badminton."
