Sustainable Development Goals
Abstract/Objectives
‘AI for the public’ is a project helping to realize the aspiration for public goods in Humanity and social science (HSS). Based on the achievements of the first stage, the second stage of this project is two years and it aims to finalize the construction of a infrastructure for HSS AI and to realize the HSS AI ecosystem. We are devoted to the following tasks: 1. Finalized the construction of the feature engineering system started in the first stage. 2. Eight training workshops and a series of online courses for the system. 3. Facilitating the advanced collaboration and training for HSS teams with the AI teams and producing 8 cases of data annotating. 4. Publishing a book and a series of online courses on the experiences of working for public AI in HSS. With these we wish to initiate an HSS AI ecosystem for better AI.
Results/Contributions

1.Co-Principal Investigator Daw-Wei Wang's team has built a text annotation system for AI training after two years of effort. This system is the first public promotion of AI text annotation system in Taiwan. Although there are commercially available paid versions of such systems in the market, they are not necessarily suitable for human society scholars to use in their research, which also creates a funding barrier to use and increases the difficulty of entering AI research when there is no funding support. The basic function of the system we are currently developing is to promote the use of the system to the public for free, in the hope of promoting the development and application of AI in human society.

2.Ten workshops aimed at promoting public awareness of AI across various disciplines have been successfully conducted: in 2022, workshops for economics, psychology, and law were completed, followed by workshops in 2023 for sociology, STS (Science, Technology, and Society), arts, regional studies, politics, anthropology, communication, and other seven disciplines. 3.Starting from October 2023, the first wave of "Generative AI Instruction Sets for Humanities and Social Sciences" began with the release of three course instruction sets: "Humanities and Social Sciences General Edition," "Technology and Society," and "Logical Fallacies."
