Sustainable Development Goals
Abstract/Objectives
In recent years, food safety issues have emerged one after another, posing risks of information asymmetry in the global supply chain of food production, processing, transportation, and sales for businesses, governments, and consumers alike, as well as challenges of potential market failures. Food safety is not only related to government regulatory measures, but also a crucial element of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in terms of health and well-being, clean water and sanitation, and also involving environmental ecology, economic growth, and industrial innovation. Therefore, it is extremely important to observe and analyze food safety issues from a more macro perspective. Furthermore, consumer confidence in businesses within the food trading market is a key foundation for the sound development of the food safety system. Consequently, corporate social responsibility, good corporate governance, self-regulatory norms, and reputation maintenance play vital roles. Thus, the design of this course will emphasize the core competitive elements that students should possess in response to the aforementioned challenges. The course content will be based on the HBA curriculum design philosophy, and will emphasize how law and policy should respond to the challenges posed by various food safety issues from the perspectives of globalization, sustainable development, and corporate governance, and how they should become effective knowledge tools to integrate into the new thinking patterns of public sector decision-makers, practical professionals, and business managers.
Results/Contributions

The course is divided into two main directions and employs group case studies, along with the provision of extended research resources, to encourage participants to engage in discussions, thereby identifying issues that can later be addressed by the instructor. This feedback-based teaching method aims to enhance the operability of learning outcomes. The core knowledge that this course intends to impart to the participants will include two main pillars: the first focuses on the legal issues and challenges posed by food safety problems and their close relationship with sustainable development; the second addresses corporate governance, legal risk management, and the roles and functions of corporate social responsibility.
