Results/Contributions

Since March 2020 Hsinchu Regional Engagement Assistance Laboratory has assisted Tsing Hua College to establish “The Program for the revitalization of urban and rural regions”. In alliance with different departments in National Tsing Hua University and the resources of local startups and studios, we make various efforts in order to arouse students' interest in urban and rural regions as well as encourage them to think out of the “curriculum-oriented” box.

The REAL project collaborates with local startups and studios that provide consulting services, such as guidance and assistance, including 16 credits of curriculum for interdisciplinary studies.

After preliminary stage, REAL has collaborated with prof. Meng-heng Chen and offered the course, Understanding the arts: Music courses. Moreover, Exploring Locality and Fieldwork courses were designed in close cooperation with prof. Ker-wei Chien who guided students on doing research in regional issues by observing the city and making video recordings in Hsinchu.

In July and August 2020, REAL held a “Three-Day Image & Narrative Workshop” along with prof. Chu-chen Hsiao and lecturers with industry experience to share the film aesthetics and technical part of film editing with project members.

This approach provides a great potential of instructional module for promoting local startups of National Tsing Hua University. It is anticipated that students will engage in regional issues more efficiently and facilitate innovation process in regions sustainably.
