In this lecture, we invited a teacher who promotes gender equality education in middle schools to share his advocacy experiences and the challenges he faced when coming out in the workplace.
During the event, the speaker first explained his experiences at the school where he teaches. As a gay man and an advocate for gender equality, he has many supportive colleagues who affirm his identity and stance on LGBTQ+ issues. However, throughout the advocacy process, he also encountered opposition and misunderstanding. Over time, through long-term interactions, those who initially opposed him gradually came to recognize and respect each other's differing opinions.
Additionally, the speaker screened a microfilm that he created together with his students. During the filming experience, they recreated everyday life scenarios to guide students and viewers in reflecting on the challenges that individuals of different gender identities face in life. This event not only advocated for understanding and equality for transgender individuals, gay people, and other LGBTQ+ communities, but also emphasized the importance of respecting diverse gender expressions.
This event provided valuable first-hand advocacy experiences in the educational field and also showcased the possibilities of implementing gender equality education through video production.
