This course is divided into three major grading standards: final exam, reading experience report, and field trip report. The final examination is an assessment of the semester course content to confirm students’ understanding of the course content. For reading report, students could choose one of the follow books: "Orientalism", "Guns, Germs and Steel: The Fate of Human Society", " Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed", "Plagues and Peoples", and "Plagues Upon the Earth: Disease and the Course of Human History". The first one is the most difficult to students, but it could be offered a new viewpoint to face the world to students. The last two books are much easier than “Orientalism”, and students could understand completely the two authors’ opinions. Ancient monuments investigating, the last work in this curriculum, is the most interesting work to students. They could pick up one of the ancient monuments anywhere in Taiwan, and they could go there with their good friends. They took a whole day to rest and see the old buildings out of textbooks. And I hope students could have interested in Taiwan’s history.
