The "4th Tsinghua Campus Sustainable Living Innovation Laboratory," co-organized by the Huo Te Award Society and the Tsinghua Academy Regional Innovation Center, is an interdisciplinary innovation program focused on sustainable development on campus. Its aim is to promote collaboration between students and the university to explore and practice sustainable concepts.
The information session attracted many students. The event began with our vice president's opening remarks, followed by a detailed introduction to the program's background and goals by Manager Chen Junming from the Regional Innovation Center, including how to integrate the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals with the unique characteristics of Tsinghua University.
This year, the Office of General Affairs and the Environmental Safety Center, along with Tsinghua Academy, raised two main issues: "Reducing Campus Waste" and "Maintaining Biodiversity on Campus." Apart from discussing relevant topics, the organizers also addressed questions from participating students during the information session.
As of the registration deadline, this year's program (involving proposal submissions from schools plus the IDEAL project) attracted nearly 10 teams from diverse student backgrounds, focusing on various issues such as ecology, curriculum platform design, and the resolution of abandoned bicycles.
Through subsequent design thinking workshops, participating teams will learn how to engage in systematic thinking from problem definition to prototype design and will begin research on the selected issues.
As the program progresses, there will ultimately be a showcase and summary of results at the end of the semester. We hope these innovative proposals will bring substantial changes to the campus and society, infusing new energy into building a more sustainable future.
