Sustainable Development Goals
Abstract/Objectives
The ASC Student Supercomputer Challenge has quickly become the world’s largest supercomputing hackathon since first launched in 2012. During the competition, we are given a set of supercomputers, we need to configure our software on these machines. And we have to run the applications given by the committee on these machines to achieve the best performance or try to rewrite the code of applications to make the execution of applications more efficient. Supercomputing could apply on several sustainable development related issues such as global climate change simulation or estimating the viral mutation which helps with spread traceability of COVID-19.

Our team consisted of juniors Wang Tzuwen, Huang Wenyuan, and Chang Chenghsun, and sophomores Mou Chanyu and Chiang Liyuan. We started preparing for the competition in the summer of 2019, with training provided by senior classmates Hsiao Yicheng and Lin Ente. During this year's winter vacation, we began preparing for the preliminaries, training for more than ten hours a day. And finally we won the Championship in the online group of the 2020-2021 ASC Student Supercomputer Challenge, outperforming more than 300 teams representing prestigious universities around the world. This is the second time that student team from NTHU's Department of Computer Science won the competition following the victory in 2019.
