Sustainable Development Goals
Abstract/Objectives
The NTHU "Touzian River Project Team" organized a "Coastal Cleanup and Sustainable Training Action" event along the Hsinchu coast, aimed at enhancing environmental education and civic participation among teachers, students, and local residents. Participants learned about the "International Coastal Cleanup" initiative by the Ocean Conservancy and documented waste collected using standardized forms. In a short span of 20 minutes, they gathered nearly 20 kilograms of trash, revealing the hidden plastic waste along the coast. This hands-on experience emphasized the importance of individual actions for environmental protection and fostered a commitment to ongoing environmental efforts. The event highlighted the motto of "Technology Integration × Sustainable Education × Civic Participation," illustrating how data recording and behavioral changes can impact global environmental governance. Overall, it reflected Tsinghua University's dedication to promoting sustainability through local community engagement.
Results/Contributions

NTHU "Touzian River Project Team" organized the "Coastal Cleanup and Sustainable Training Action" along the Hsinchu coast to deepen environmental education and civic action. Teachers, students, and local residents were invited to participate together, gaining an understanding of the importance of protecting the marine environment through hands-on experience. In this training course, the team specially invited the "Sustainable Ambassadors" from Tsinghua University to learn about the "International Coastal Cleanup (ICC)" initiative launched by the Ocean Conservancy in the United States. This activity is characterized by the use of standardized recording forms to document every piece of river and ocean waste collected, with the data being uploaded to their headquarters in the U.S. to support the integration and comparison of global ocean pollution data. In just 20 minutes of action, participants collected nearly 20 kilograms of trash. During the process, teachers and students were surprised to find that even seemingly clean coasts concealed large amounts of plastic and small waste. They deeply recognized the importance of daily actions for environmental protection. The event not only heightened the awareness among teachers, students, and the community regarding environmental issues but also inspired a willingness to continue participating in more environmental actions. Through this event, the Touzian River Project Team extended the philosophy of "Technology Integration × Sustainable Education × Civic Participation" to coastal governance. Participants were able to understand the connection between data recording, behavior change, and global environmental governance through action, demonstrating Tsinghua University's commitment and influence in promoting sustainable actions through local practice.
