Organizations are placing increasing emphasis on employees' mental health. Taiwan introduced Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) in 1972, marking the beginning of their development. As societal awareness of mental health grows, businesses have progressively adopted EAPs to enhance employee well-being and work efficiency. In 2022, National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) launched the First NTHU Sustainable Living Innovation Lab, aiming to apply academic resources to social practice and deepen the integration of theory and practice.
This study explores how professional service courses and social engagement can improve workplace mental health services while equipping students with practical skills in planning and implementing EAPs. The course objectives include: (1) assessing and designing internal EAPs for enterprises, (2) fulfilling NTHU’s commitment to social responsibility and sustainable development, and (3) evaluating the capabilities of psychology-background graduate students in executing EAPs. Adopting a project-based learning approach, the study designs practice-oriented courses informed by long-term observations of corporate needs. This approach ensures that students establish a strong link between theoretical knowledge and real-world applications, enhancing their professional competencies. The curriculum covers Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, EAP theoretical frameworks, EAP operational models, counseling and intervention techniques, and program implementation strategies. Students not only gain theoretical insights but also accumulate hands-on experience through corporate collaborations and practical applications. This research contributes to the advancement of workplace mental health services while providing students with an integrated learning opportunity that aligns with NTHU’s mission of social responsibility and sustainable development.
