Sustainable Development Goals
Abstract/Objectives
1.Ethical sourcing policy : NTHU has established a Dietary Committee responsible for overseeing the operations of on-campus dining facilities. When selecting food service providers, they are required to comply with relevant policies to ensure that the meals provided meet nutritional, safety, and hygiene standards. Suppliers must record their ingredients and supplier information on the Ministry of Education’s Campus Food Ingredients Registration Platform to prioritize the procurement of local ingredients. Additionally, campus meals should prioritize the use of high-quality local agricultural products certified by the agricultural authorities. 2.The manufacturers are required to log the ingredients and suppliers on the Campus Food Ingredients Registration of the Ministry of Education. In particular, it is necessary to mark organic, production and sales history, Taiwan's excellent agricultural products CAS and other labels or have Taiwan agricultural production traceability QR Code (three chapters and one Q) ingredients to strengthen the safety and traceability of various ingredients.
Results/Contributions

1.NTHU Dietary Committee is responsible for supervising the operations of campus dining facilities, conducting hygiene inspections, and ensuring the provision and management of nutritious, safe, and hygienic food services.

2.Campus Food Ingredients Registration:

(1)NTHU asks the food manufacturers to provide nutritious, safe and hygienic meals. In addition to labeling the calories of meals, every day manufacturers are also required to log the ingredients and suppliers on the Campus Food Ingredients Registration of the Ministry of Education to ensure that everyone on campus gets healthy food.

(2)In addition to general small-scale meal manufacturers, the main chain manufacturers of NTHU, including 7-11, FamilyMart, McDonald’s, etc., in addition to product quality and hygiene requirements, in response to the trend of sustainable development, the economy, the environment, and the the society is equally included in the scope of supply evaluation, and it is expected that through the evaluation of sustainability indicators, we will unite the power of the supply chain to implement sustainable development together.

3.NTHU Dr. Mei Memorial Garden Ecological Environment and Food & Agriculture Education:

(1)Dr. Mei Memorial Garden at NTHU was established in memory of President Mei Yiqi and is home to over 200 plum trees. Every January, during the blooming season, it becomes a popular destination for faculty, students, the public, and photography enthusiasts. After the flowers fall, the trees bear green plums that are rich in organic acids. To help the NTHU community better understand the historical environment and maintenance methods of the plum tree area, as well as the harvesting and processing of green plums into preserved plums, we organize environmental and food & agriculture education activities where participants can experience plum harvesting and making preserved plums by hand.

(2)Upholding the concepts of zero food waste and sustainability, NTHU noticed that ripe plums were falling to the ground. As a result, it decided to harvest the plums and outsource the production of preserved plums and plum wine, creating NTHU limited-edition seasonal souvenirs, which have been well received.

4.The Greenmarket by Lake Success(Chengkung Lake) at NTHU:

(1)It provides a platform for local producers and consumers to interact directly, allowing consumers to enjoy a healthy and eco-friendly green lifestyle, while producers can cultivate the land in their hometowns in an environmentally friendly manner, promoting sustainable management of the green earth. It also connects with community colleges and non-profit organizations, fostering collaborative learning and farming, and spreading the concepts and seeds of green living together.

(2)By purchasing eco-friendly ingredients, you can also participate in DIY workshops, listen to lectures and storytelling sessions. The whole family can leisurely stroll around the campus, have a picnic by Chenggong Lake, or relax on the large lawn under the sun. If you feel like reading a book, enjoying coffee, and listening to music, you can take a walk around the lake to the Shui Mu Book House and Café. The Green Market is more than just a place for shopping; it’s a family-friendly market that brings people of all ages together and fosters connection.

5.10M Co-op for Sustainability:

The goal is to focus on the local community by bringing together producers and consumers from the Hsinchu area. It advocates for the establishment of an "Urban-Rural Sustainable Living Cooperative," which operates based on the principles of mutual support, equality, and transparency, to meet the living needs of all parties and co-create a sustainable lifestyle.
